Insurance companies are risk business, they run their business by managing risks of the people they insured. The higher the risk, the higher the premium, and vice versa. It’s normal that insurance companies more prefer to issue policies for risks that are unlikely to happen. Because the more claims occure meaning the more profit they lost.
So how about the people who have dangerous jobs like movie stuntmen or extreme sport athletes ? can they obtain a life insurance like other people ?. These people risk their lives everyday by doing dangerous activities that could not only causes bad injury, but also can take their lives anytime.
Although it’s not easy to find an insurance company that would give coverage for people with such extreme activities, actually there are lots of insurance companies that are willing to insure them. But of course as I said before, the higher the risk the higher the premium. They can obtain a life insurance by paying a higher premium than a normal policy for their extreme activities, and this premium can be extremely high depending on the risk calculation done by the insurance company for the person insured’s activity.
This “high risk policy” is not always meant for the people who have risky jobs. A person with a normal job but found by the insurance company to has a dangerous activity or hobby such as base jumping, paragliding, mountain climbing, etc, could be considered as a high risk person known in the industry as “hazardous avocations”. This can cause an insurance company to raise their premium to cover the additional risks or they can even cancel all the coverage. Usually every insurance company has a list of behaviour they consider as a hazardous avocations or dangerous activities that can effect the insurance rate or even a policy cancellation.
